We’ve rounded up some of the newest products available now from our Creative Orkney and Taste of Orkney members. It’s time to treat yourself and your family and friends to something special from the islands.

The latest collection from Sheila Fleet Jewellery is inspired by happy days beachcombing along the shorelines of Orkney. The shell collection is made up of beautiful limpet, mussel, oyster, and scallop designs and is available in silver with enamel, 9ct yellow gold, and in luxurious 18ct yellow gold with enamel. Many of the designs are hand-set with pearls and some pieces are reversible, allowing you to show the shell’s enamalled interior, or reversed to show its intricate, carved exterior.

Get into the Christmas spirit with the festive flavours of Yuletide Gin from the Orkney Distillery. It’s full of mouth-watering winter spice and fruit and floral notes, all inspired by Orcadian Christmas traditions and Orkney’s Viking heritage. It even has a special addition of frankincense and myrrh. It was launched exclusively with the Craft Gin Club after being selected from hundreds of contenders to be their December Gin of the Month. Now it’s available for everyone to enjoy this Christmas. The distillery also has new candles from Nature Reclaimed inspired by its Aurora and Yuletide gins, and beautiful glassware made from empty bottles from the distillery. This beautiful pendant from Stromness-based jewellery designer Zoe Davidson would make the perfect present for anyone with a connection to the town. It’s a snapshot of how the houses on the Stromness harbour look from the sea, complete with their stepped gable-ends, beautiful stonework and piers. There’s even a traditional Orkney yole boat in the foreground. These special pieces are of particular importance to Zoe, who lives and works from the local house her father and grandmother lived in. These pieces are completely hand-carved in wax and cast in sterling silver.

It has been a busy year full of exciting changes for local textile design studio, Hilary Grant. The talented team has opened a new Orkney factory, which means the majority of its stunning lambswool pieces - including scarves, hats, blankets, and bedthrows - are now knitted and hand-finished right here in the islands. These beautiful blankets feature an orderly, tapestry-like pattern, sitting within a bordered composition. The colours blend to create a variety of tones and hues, and the reverse features all the colours from the design too. The blankets are perfect for the sofa, single beds, or to top Scandi-style double bedding. They're also available in king and super-king bed throws - perfect for those wild winter days.

The latest addition to Scapa Distillery’s popular reserve collection is a 13-year-old cask edition whisky with a Palo Cortardo finish. Limited to just 468 bottles, it has a rich, fruity, and spicy finish, with exotic fruits, cinnamon, honey, and vanilla on the nose. It has been bottled at 54.9% and during the winter comes with two free whisky glasses too.

This new table light design from talented Orkney glass artist, Carrie Paxton, features some of the grass and weeds you’ll find on local shorelines. It’s made using clear glass which is kiln fired three times with enamels to achieve the perfect depth of colour, texture and detail. It comes with a custom-made base – handmade in Orkney by DGR Designs - with an LED light source, cable and wall plug.

Orkney and its natural environment have always influenced Burray-based craftsman Leo Kerr, and his latest collections of handmade mirrors showcase that inspiration perfectly. His Ocean Collection sees an intense blue and turquoise dye used on the elm frames which, when mixed with the swirls of the grain, combine to echo the patterns found in the seas surrounding the islands. For his Storm Collection, Leo has fumed oak with ammonia which reacts with the tannins in the wood to naturally darken the heart timber. The sap timber retains its natural colour which provides a wonderful contrast. The appearance mimics the look and feel of dark, brooding storm clouds often seen in Orkney at this time of year. Each mirror is completely unique and they're sure to be an eye-catching piece of furniture in any home.

Here’s another tasty tipple to enjoy this Christmas, this time from the award-winning Orkney Gin Company. It has taken its signature distilled gin, Aatta, and infused it with festive flavours to create its Special Edition Christmas Old Tom. This warming, sweet and silky gin is handmade with lemons, oranges and wintry dried fruits, as well as cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and a touch of ginger.

Alison Moore has recently launched two new collections from her Stromness workshop, both inspired by Orkney’s natural world. Her Sea Buttons collection features pendants and studs based on the tiny holdfasts from which seaweed emerges and grows in the cool waters around the islands. They come in silver and gold, enhanced by a birthstone of your choice. The Northern Lights collection takes its inspiration from the Aurora Borealis, or the Merry Dancers as they’re known locally, in the form of rings, necklets, bracelets, and more. Many pieces are accented by beautiful Labradorite gemstones, thought by the Inuit to contain the Aurora.

If you’re planning on enjoying a festive tipple with family and friends then these colourful coasters from talented Orkney artist Jane Glue might be an ideal stocking filler. Each glass coaster is printed with a design from one of Jane’s original paintings, including sunsets, shorelines, views of Stromness and more. They’re 100mmx100mm and come in a recycled gift box. Each image is also available as a limited-edition print.

The award-winning Deerness Distillery can help you celebrate the festive season with its special selection of Christmas hampers. Featuring bottles of its gins, vodka, and coffee liqueur, many of the hampers also include some delicious Orcadian accompaniments, including local oatcakes, marshmallows, fudge, and more. They're the perfect introduction to the Orkney larder.

These festive-themed ear studs from Marion Miller Jewellery are perfect for a peedie present, as we’d say here in Orkney. They’re silver with bright green vitreous enamel and are all handmade in Marion’s Stronsay workshop. Each tree is cut from a sheet of fine silver using a jewellers saw, before the enamel is melted in the kiln and fused to the base of the metal. They come in a gift box and, if ordered online, there’s also a polishing cloth, care instructions, and a small bag of seashells collected from Marion’s local island beach included.
